RABBIT BOARD

PONGAKAWA MEETING

12,000 ACRES WORKED'

The monthly meeting of the Poll' gakawa Rabbit Board was held in the Paengaroa Hall. Present: Messrs J. N. Blaymircs (chairman), C. A. Ball,, R. Black, J. -Re-id and. G. C. Roberts; also Messrs Leigliton (Rotoiti), T. French (Rotorua) and AH. Dukeson, secretary. Correspondence was read re the proposed extension of the rabbit district. In the Man aw alio district the secretary of the local committee reported that the petition had been signed by 80 per cent of the ratc.paj-crs, so inclusion of this arey is now assured. It. was also stated that, good progress is being made with the petition in the Rangitaiki district between the Tarawera and Rangitaiki rivers. Thp inclusion of this area Avould extend the rabbit district to the. Rangitaiki river, boundary of the East Coast Rabbit District. In the course of his report on the work done since the previous meeting on January 2 the foreman,, Mtj C. H. Davis, stated that during that period 12,300 acres had been poisoned. and 300 acres fumigated. With few exceptions the poison had been taken well and good kills obtained. Staff employed, the foreman and six fabourcrs, had since been reduced to five. Within a week or two the second round of poisoning will be well under way. As. New Zealand stocks of Cynagas are new exhausted further fumigation can only be carried out bj r other means costing more in both labour and materials. Mr Le.ighton, of Rotoiti, reported very good results from the work done in that part of the district. The secretary reported the collection of 90 per echt otf the rates levied. It was agreed that a reminder be sent to those with rates outstanding that the 10 per cent penalty would be added after March 16. It was arranged that as the Pongakaiwa Hall is in use as a school class room all meetings from now on be he,ld in the Paengaroa Hall, and members' travelling expenses were adjusted accordingly.
