♦ WHAKATANE DEFEATED GOOD WIN FOR WAIMANA Whakatane journeyed to Waimana on Sunday and were severely beaten at the hands of the home team veterans. A first innings score of 272 demoralised the youthful Whakatane players who collapsed for 55 and 99 in both innings. Poor fielding by Whakatane allowed Waimana to score, steadily and chance after chance was dropped.ln one instance it required .two fieldsmen to dispose of H. Wardlaw, the ball passing through the wicketkeeper's hands (Dewhurst) before being held by Smart. It is hard to single out any especial effort for the home side's batting but Iv. Bel! played a stolid knock of 66. Dewhurst was the only Whaka-
tane batsman to show any form and played through eight wickets for 16 runs, J. Rivett being the only other batsman to reach double figures . In the visitors second. innings wickets fell equally as rapidly until Rivett and Smart, livened up the scoring with 20 off one over from Addison. The partnership yielded 40 runs and Rivett's score mounted to 74 before being bowled by K. Bell. Waimana batted again and scored--92 in happy style. Despite the state of the scores a pleasant day was enjoyed by both teams.
