The Minister indicated that he thought it Avould be possible to ease the position very considerably, but it Avould be necessary to guard closely against any abuse of the concession. A copy of the letter Avas read at the. monthly meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers:' Union on March 17. Air Heath Mason (Te Kuiti) spoke of delays in the replies to applications. The president (Captain H. M. Rushworth) said this Avas due partly to the shortage of tjTes, and partly to the care in guarding against abuses.
