FERTILISER RATIONING

GUIDANCE FOR FARMERS MUST APPEAL BEFORE APRIL 30 # The Primary Production Council draws the attention of farmers to— an advertisement in this issue o-n fertiliser rationing for t]ie 1943-41 season commencing July 1. Under certain conditions applications or appeals will be. accepted,, but must be lodged prior to Aprik 30 or will be dismissed. The rationing of fertilisers has created a real problem, but the present method, of allocation on a prior usage basis has been accepted in the* main as the fairest method of distribution., so far as the individual farmer is. concerned. An endeavour has been made to overcome some, ot the hardships which inevitably arLSfi in any rationing scheme, so this is an opportunity to review the position. It must be apparent that it is unlikely there Avill be an improvement of supplies for at. least the duration of the war. The National CouneSJ is fully aware of the necessity to keep up production, so aresearchiijg every rource to maintain a distribution of not less than last season. The Clarond.on deposits are being developed as rapidly as possible by ihjfci British Phosphate Commit sion, who have arranged to undertake the whole capital expenditure' and cost of quarrying.
