LADY WORKERS AGAIN
SOMETHING of the value of the work of the ladies of this town in connection with the Patriotic quota, can be gleaned from the fact that in the operations for the first four weeks of the 'shop' under the street scheme no less than £129 12s has been raised. As everyone knows the shop serves a dual purpose, the proceeds being devoted to both the Patriotic and the Red Cross funds. Whakatane ladies are this year taking a more comprehensive grip on the shop activities and there will be few housewives who will not be directly or indirectly associated with its staffing or stocking at some time or other. If the present splendid turnover can be maintained throughout the year there should be no trouble in meeting the promised £750 which the ladies have pledged themselves to raise for the Borough Patriotic quota.
