WHAKATANE ANNUAL MEETING OFFICERS RE-ELECTED 1 The. annual meeting of the YVhakatanc Women's Institute was. held on 2nd March in the Methodist Hall, " Mrs Stewart presiding over a fair attendance. I.n the event of a confercncc lie- * j'ng held this 3-ear. Mrs Stewart was appointed delegate, and Mrs Mulholland was nominated for an executive position on the Bay of Plenty Council. Arrangements were made for the Institute to stock and attend to the Red Cross shop on Friday sth. The president renewed her appeal fdr old linen for use in Midde East hospitals, and for helpers for the Lady Galway Guild. The minutes of the last annual general meeting were then read and adopted. + The secretary read the annual report and the resports of convenors of the various circles were received revealing «a hard working year, * Nominations for a committee for the ensuing year resulted in 11 members being appointed: Mesdames Zinsli, Hannah, Crosier, Butler, Mulholla'nd, Norman, Comer, Print, Cairns, White and Miller. Convenors of circles were arrange ed, and a delegate from the Insti--1 tute to the Red Cross was appointed. During the afternoon Mrs Warner sang charmingly two stings entitled Brown O'wl" and "Song of Sleep,"' both of which received hearty applause. The roll call for the month Ayas "constructive criticism," a few r amusing small complaints being made. General satisfaction with > the organisation of the institute was the keynote of. the roll call. An attractive afternoon tea was served by new members, and the - meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Competitions were Avon as follows: Jell3 r , Mrs Stewart. 1; Mrs Norman 2. Tomatoes, Mrs Mulholland 1; Mrs Matthews 2. Guinea golds, Mrs Mulholland 1; Mrs Comer-2.
