WAIMANA MEETING

The March meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's institute ■was held in the Waimana. Hall last Wednesday afternoon. lit being the annual meeting the minutes of the last annual meeting were read, also the annual report and balance sheet, all being adopted. Mrs McConnell and Mrs John Addison were the appointed members to arrange the entertainment for Members, Day in April. The roll call, "A mistake in the. Kitchen," was well responded to and revealed many tragic mistakes, the most drastic probably being the putting of "Old Dutch Cleanser" into mashed potatoes instead of pepper..Several very interesting letters were read from men overseas thanking members for parcels received. A number of members handed in knitting done with patriotic wool. The results of the day's competitions- Avcre as follows: Best single flower, Miss Mavis Wardlaw 1; Mrs W. Addison 2; Mrs A. K. Bell 3.

Best double flower, Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Fleming 2; Mrs H. Wardlaw 3. Three-minute sponge, Mrs I. Savage 1; Mrs F. Bell 2. Jar preserved pears, Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs Hewitt 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs Wylde .2; Mrs Clark 3. The election of the committee for 1943-44 followed: President, Mrs Hewitt re-elected; vice-presidents, Mrs Marra, Mrs F. Savage; secretary, Mr* H. Wardlaw; committee, Mrs King, Mrs Woolfield, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs I . Savage Mrs John Addison. Mrs Mitchell and Mrs J. Wardlaw. Mrs J. Wardlaw and Mrs Cooper acted as. judges for the day,, and a dainty afternoon tea was scived by the hostesses. Mrs Hewitt in well-' chosen words, thanked Mrs Wylde. secretary, and all members for their wonderful help during the past year and wished the Institute every sueeess in future years. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
