FLY NUISANCE AND OATS
The reported occurrence of large numbers of (lies in the Wairoa (North Auckland) district,, states a correspondent to the Forest and Bird ; Protection Society, is. probably a periodic happening, and is undoubtedly due to the presence of plentiful breeding grounds and; ample food supplies. Thus the flies are able to overcome the activities of their enemies:, such as fantailtf. The obvious coursb appears to be to decrease the breeding place of ilies, and the cat population, and thus permit the flycatchers, to increase.
