PADDY CHAMBERS AGAIN

WHEN Flying Officer H. W. (Paddy) Chambers of Opotiki, but whose family reside in Whakatane, brought down six enemy fighter machines in the North African theatre, three weeks ago, his friends were thrilled to learn that the exploit had earned for him the Distinguished Flying Cross. • A "fortnight later the whole of the Eastern Bay has again thrilled with pride to learn of his latest exploit which is regarded in Allied Headquarters as unique. This was the shooting down of five Savoia bombers which were intent on attacking a convoy in the Mediterranean. How the bombers, flying in line astern, were attacked singlehanded by this intrepid fighter pilot is known now to the world at large and the narrative of the engagement is told in the cryptic form of the pilot's official report. Here indeed is a hero of which the Dominion may well be proud and for bold, purposeful fighting ability coupled with complete handling and control his record places the Bay boy well in line with any other airman heroes of which we have read.
