Taneatua Ratepayers Meeting Attention is drawn to the advertisement in to-day's issue convening a meeting of ratepayers, under the auspices of the N.Z., Farmers' Union in the Taneatua Hall tonight for the purpose of discussing Hospital rating and particularly the proposed loan of £45,000. Patriotic Canvass of Borough We have been notified by the secretary of the Men's Borough Patriotic C'ommit.tee that Mr A. R. Chapman has undertaken to canvass list No. 18, Domain Road and Russell Street, but to date there have still been no volunteers for the area of lower James Street which is designated; list No. 30. Volunteers are wanted urgently in this; respect. Householders in the Bridge Street Alexandria Avenue area are asked to note that the canvasser will be Mr C. Kirk and not Mr A. Maori Supplied With Beer An unusual charge was preferred against Hinahaka Roihana at the Whakatane Magistrate's Court, sitting last Tuesday when a charge was brought of having conveyed a bottle of liquor into the local court cells for the benefit of a prisoner serving a sentence therein. Walton, after hearing the. evidence entered a conviction and ordered the payment of costs OSw Maintenance Claiin Succeeds* In the Magistrate's Court sitting at Whakatane last Tuesday Millie Te Maipi (Mr L Buddie) proceeded against Dave Te. Maipi (Mr If. F. Smith) for maintenance of herself and two children. Petitioner claimed that she had not received any support from her husband: since he left home on Christmas Eve and did not return. Maintenance to the extent of 10s per week was allowed in respect of petitioner and 7s 0d for each of the two children.
