DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS

FLYING OFFICER H. W. (PADDY) CHAMBERS Notification has been received that Flying Officer Hansford Ward (Paddy) Chambers, son of Mrs and! the late Mr A. W. Chambers of Douglas Street, Whakatane, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for conspicuous bravery. Flying Officer Chambers is mentioned in the citation as a skilful, determined pilot who took part in many sorties before going to North Africa, where he. destroyed six enemy aircraft. lin November, 1942, lie destroyed four Savoia 79's which attempted to attack a convoy. Although his aircraft was' much damaged he Hew it back to his base.
