MEAT PRODUCTION

FOUR MONTHS' KILLINGS The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion's Freezing Works from Ist October till 30th January, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, show that lamb killings now total 4,192,761 carcases compared with .">,072,314 carcases; to 31st January last season, this being a decrease of 579,553 carcases. Wither mutton killings are 94,999 carcases, and ewe mutton killings 319,866 carcases;, compared with 233,403 and 258,365 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings; in the North and South Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses, are as follows:— North Island Lamb 3,149,768 (3,251,598) Wether mutton 93,940 ( 221,101) Ewe mutton 299,607 ( 179,608) _ South Island Lamb ' 1,342,993 (1,820,716) Wether mutton 1,095 ( 12,302) Ewe mutton 20,259 ( 78,757) Frozen beef production hasi reached 84,970 quarters compared with 71,666 quarters last season. Porker killings now total 10,245 carcases, compared with 49,717 carcases last season, being a decrease of 39,472, whilst baconers total 58, ~ 498 carcases compared with 146,477 last season, being a decrease of 87,979.
