THE MISSING SHILLING
Sir,—'l see by the Beacon 'that I have not given the correct solution tc liis (Mr Mora's) puzzle. His puzzle was, 10 pake.lias go into a hotel, 5 go one end of the bar, five to the other end, have a shout round, that is 50 drinks 25 each at 6d per drink, £1 ss. Then 10 Maoris came in 6 go 'to one end 4 to the other end, and they have a shout round,. Six shouts round is 36 drinks, at the other end 7 I 4 shouts round is 16 drinks a total , of 52. 52 drinks at 6d per drink £1 6s. Now I will leave it to you, Mr Editor, to say if my solution is * right. I hope it will be for six months free beer doesn't come! every day. Yours etc., "FACTS IS FACTS." (Like Churchill, after the French collapse in 1940—we reserve judgment until we have heard the other side. Certainly it would seem that your nom-de-plume was well chosen. We await Mr Mora's reply and as for the free beer—? Ed.)
