Whakatane, fell from a haystack during harvesting operations and- was also admitted to hospital suffering from a deep scalp woundv His condition, this morning was reported' good. Footpath in James- Street In response to the request by residents of James Street west for the construction of a footpath, Khe Borough Council decided at its last meeting that the petitioners be advised that the Council will our to make what provision it can in next year's estimates for a start to be made Avith the work. Schoolboy's Narrow Escape While diving into the swimming pool at the foot of the. Maraetotara Gorge last Monday, a school boy, Colin Morpeth, nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Hex Morpeth, of Salonika Street, struck liis head on a, sharp rock on the bottom which inflicted a deep scalp wound., lie was removed, to hospital where he. is now making a good recovery. Rowers of the Future At the recent, meeting called for the purpose of making the Rowing Club's shed weather proof, it was pointed out by Mr Partridge that a number of youths from the town were keen to be given the chance of training in the Club's skiffs. These young fellows, lie said, were a good type and were prepared to look after the boats under supervision and also train as members for the time- when the club was properly established. The meeting .set up a Trust. Committee, part of the duties of. which will be to see tha v i the boys, receive encouragement in their effort, and also tuition in rowing and handling the skiffs.
