REHABILITATION
HARBOUR BOARD'S SUGGESTION
FURTHER RECLAMATION WORK
Discussfing the letter from the Rehabilitation Board, Wellington, which invited the enumeration of various undertakings as a means of post-war employment, Mr W. R. Boon, chairman of the Whakatane Harbour Board, said) last Friday that the work of reclamation was possibly the best the Board could undertake.
Mr Ruddick thought the idea of introducing rehabilitation at tills juncture was an excellent one. "We don't want to he as unprepared for this matter, as Ave were for the war,'' he sakl. He suggested however that the subject be held over until the , next meeting of fche Primary Production Council when a better idea of what was needed would be forthcoming. He mentioned the possibility of a new loan if anything on » , large scale, was under consideration. "I'm not prepared to go in for any loans in this matter," rejoined the chairman. It is my opinion that we should gradually piUb a little aside at the end of each financial year for the purpose of employing these demobilised men when it is necessary. Mr Brabant considered the chairman's suggestion a sound one and moved that it be left to the chairman and secretary to compile a list of undertakings for rehabilitation work. Mr Tickneir seconded and the motion was carried. 1
