THE LADIES
THE recent offer of the Whakatane Red Cross ladies to raise £750 (half the town's patriotic quota) brings us to a point which we have often intended mentioning*. What- . ever may be said of this town and district, our critics can ,have but -unstinted praise for the wonderful workingcapacity of our. womenfolk. Throughout the whole of this district we have but to ask how the Patriotic appeal, the Red Cross work, the social gatherings for war purposes, the stalls, the fairs, the garden parties, the knitting, sewing and a hundred and one other sidelights on our war activities, would have progressed, had it not been for the wonderful work of our district ladies committees. May we too be privileged to add our own words of commendation for the loyal and generous response made by the ladies in the Zone 'K' area, towards this district's war effort.
