WOMEN'S INSTITUTE ACTIVITIES • The Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute held their February meeting last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall. Mrs Hewitt presided over a good, attendance: of members and several' visitors. Mrs Wyldes read the minutes after the singing of the Institute 1 song. Nominations were received for the 1943-44 committee; Mrs Hewitt, was re-elected president. Mrs J. Mitchell gave a most interesting story on the pioneering days of her grand father and her family, and Mrs F. Bell read an Interesting letter from her son, Robert, who is serving in the Middje East' forces. The Roll Call was, sport readings from members, which proved most entertaining and instructive. A great number of knitted articles'werc hand cd in by several members. The day's competitions were as follows: Best double flower, Mrs TWardlaw 1; Mrs F. Bell 2; Mrs White 3. Best single flower, Miss M. Wardlaw 1; Mrs Stevenson 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs F. Bell 3. Dark plum jam (novice), Mrs Wylde 1,; Mrs King 2; Mrs F. J. Savage 3. Handkerchief 4 made from salt bag, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs F. Bell 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Rhubarb, Mrs King 1; Mrs Savage 2: Mrs Hewitt 3. The bring and buy stall for Federation funds did brisk business.. Afternoon tea was then served, and Mrs Hewitt (thanked judges and hostesses, which was followed by the singing of. the National Anthem. Personal Mrs W. Rickerby of Ohaupo, is stoying with her mother, Mrs John Addison, Waimana. Mr and Mrs C. Such, Auckland, are staying with Mrs F. Bell, Waimana. Mrs T. W. Wardlaw, Greenmeadows, Waimana, is on holiday at Waihi.
