RACING NOTES

IMPROVEMENT NOTED JefF, the full brother to Rona Bay and Gladynev, is showing improvement in his track work. It has been learned that he is likelj r to do best, under colours with a strong horseman, and the services of one ranking under this class will doubtless be. secured. NOW AT TAKANINI .Tockev V. Dye, who for itlie past three years has been associated with R. H. Martin's; team at Matamata, and is now out of his: apprenticeship and has joined up with trainer F. Smith's team at Takanini. Last Saturday he rode three winne.es trained, by Smith. A PROMISING JUVENILE Week by week <the two year old Yorkish owned by Messrs P. and J. Brenan, of Paeroa, has been settling down to his work at Takanini, and will soon be able, to show Ms galloping capability in public. HOP OF THE LIST So far this season W. 'J. Broughton is top of the jockey's winning list with 24 wins. A SPEEDY TWO YEAR OLD or - Sea Spi, who had a runaway win in the Wellington Stakes, is now in the position of leading stake winning two year old of the season. She was bred ait. Feilding b\~ Mr R. J. Harper and Miss E. D. Cornfoot, and was purchased at the 1942 National Sales for 115 guineas. As she has now won £154.0 in stakes she ranks, as a real sale ring bargain. "A HAIR OF HER TAIL" Last week it was noted in these columns that a Wellington writer had made a statement to the effect that Gamble, is no\t worth a hair from the tail of his mum, Cuddle. By the stable attendant Gamble was duly informed of this pronouncement, and in order to prove the writer a little "offside" he won the Higliweight Handicap at Pahiatua on Saturday lost. Gamble is by Croupier—Cuddle, and there is just a likelihood that he will at least prove useful. THE EXHIBITION GALLOP At. the Wairoa meeting the champion Kindergarten treated the racing public to a three furlong exhibition gallop. Commencing at the top (turn he quickly got into top speed and down the home run he was galloping brilliantly. He returned to the birdcage apparently quite sound and received; a splendid ovation from the record attendance. Kindergarten certainly formed one of the main atractions at the meeting. MERELY WAITING Although the Matamata Cup engagement of Regal Fox was declined, there is every probability that he may contest the Herries Memorial Cup at the end of the month. IMPROVEMENTS REQUIRED The Wanganui Jockey Club expects to be able to use its own , course for the next meeting, and at present is planning the necessary j repair work and improvements to | the racing track. A SALE CANCELLED It, now transpires that the Canterbury owned, Wayfarer reported to have, been secured by a Waikato sportsman, will not come north. The sale has been cancelled owing to the illness of 'the purchaser. A TRENTHAM ACQUISITION The Foxbridge—Astarth filly that realised 675 guineas at the National Sales is now owned by Mr C. McFarland, of Wellington, andi has joined W. Hawthorne's team at Trentham. TRANSFERRED TO TRENTHAM The Wanganui horse Dynasty, a very capable galloper, is now being raced |fn the colours of Mr Tony Wood, &of Wellington, who in recent years had a good run of success with. Autopay. WILL DO BETTER The Foxbridge filly, Abbey Fox, who ran a third at the Auckland mid-summer fixture, is expected to do better at the country circuit meetings. She is trained by George Lindsay, of Avondale, who is generally 'well represented at the Te Aroha and Pacroa meetings.

TRAINED AT TE AWAMUTU

Royal Master, winner of the Trial Handicap at Ellerslie, is now trained by E. J. Murtagh, of Te Awamutu, who may be depended upon to place the colt satisfactorily for the remainder of the season. TO TAKE A HOLIDAY The well known Wanganui trainer, AValter Ilayner, for the first time in many years; has an empty stable. He has (therefore decided to take an extended holiday.
