THEFT AT MATATA
TIN OF PAINT TAKEN
YOUNG MAORI SENTENCED
Pleading guilty to a charge of the theft of a tin of paiint at Matata on December 22, Jack Huinia, a young Maori appeared before Messrs G. A. Brabant and C. E. Christensen, in the Whakatane Court yesterday.
Sergeant Farrell said that Hunia was employed by the Native Department in building a cowshed on a farm at Matata. 'Nearby was th« shack of another Maori, Sam Ngaropa, who- was absent. The accused with another Maori broke intp the building and, as a result a considerable amount of property was missing. The only thing traceable to Hunia was the paint Avhich had been recovered partially used. Other items had been found in /the' possession of another Maori who would appear before the Court in due course. Hunia's record was not exactly a iclean one.
A sentence of one month's imprisonment AA"as imposed.
