It's quite simple, the catch was merely in the setting out of the figures. Now try it this way: Aiiv men paid 30s, proprietor paid back 5s making charge 255, but 2s out of the 5s wast kept by the waiter and that made the figure 275. The. waiter gave: the 3s back to the airmen which made up the original total of 30s.
