Donation to> Health Camp The Borough Council lias decided to donate, its usual £2 2s to the King George V Memorial Hearth Camp Fund, whereby children from the larger centres, are enabled to spend a brief seasonable holiday at the beaches. Rowing Club's Shed Renovations We have pleasure, in acknowledging two further donations to the fund now building up for renovating and saving the Rowing Club's shed from collapse. Both arc anonymous and amount to £1 and 10/- respectively. The total now in hand is £2 10/-. Rate Penalty After March 23 The Whakatane County Council decided last Tuesday that in terms, of Section 76 of, the Rating Act 1925, and amendments, if any, an additional charge of 10 per cent, be added, to all 194.2-43 Whakatane County rates, an 1941-42 Whakatane Harbour rates not paid by 23rd March. 1943. Taneatua Convenience The Education Board has notified the Whakatane County Council that it is not prepared to make over the. site suggested for the erection of a public convenience at Taneatua, but would be prepared to release, another site held by the Board on the southern corner of the school site. The council last Tuesday considered the new proposal as not satisfactory and. discussed the possibility of taking over the original site under the Public Works Act. It was. left to Crs McGougan and McCready to discuss the matter with the citizens of Taneatua and to bring back a recoupmendation. • New Cemetery Site The Whakatane Borough Council has decided with reference to the establishment of the new cemetery, that the County Council be advised that it was the opinion of the Council that no tender would be received for the: work and that there was now need for urgency in reaching finality; that the arrangement originally discussed provided that the County's heavy plant, would be available for the work which Avas to be put in hand using the plant and staff of both council's, and that this method was preferred by the Borough Council, the council also decided that authority be given the Foreman-Engineer and Town Clerk to procure the necessary concrete pipes for drainage work at the new cemetery.
