FAILURE TO OBEY INJUNCTION CASE FOR STRATHMORE Pleading guilty to a charge of having failed to present himself at the Whakatane Hospital for the purpose of being X-ray-ed in connection with his military service examination, Jack Davies, a single man, formerly employed by the Rangitaiki Dairy Company was last Tuesday sentenced by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., to be detained at the St rath mo re Defaulters Camp. Sergeant Farrell said that since leaving the Dairy Companj*'s employ at Piripai, he had drifted about the country and had been very evasive. Many efforts to contact him had failed and lie was apparently a shirker. Asked by the Magistrate if lie intended to render scrvicc defendant said that he understood he had been held in essential work. Lieutenant Head stated that he had been recommended for treatment which made the X-ray treatment necessary. Defendant .said that he had no recollection of even a verbal invitation >to attend for such Ivray. The Magistrate: Of course that is only part of your evasion. Yours is a different story to that of the men who queued up to enlist at the outbreak of the war. He was convicted and ordered to be committed to the Militai-y Defaulters Camp forthwith.
