A RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TOWN
ON the Whakatane waterfront the delapidated shed belonging to the Rowing Club, is in danger of immediate collapse unless something is done to stay it and restore it to a substantial state of repair. This building houses some five rowing skiffs, three of them in good serviceable order and one of them almost new. The members of the club are to be found in the fighting forces here and overseas. In their absence* it is surely up to us as citizens of the town and to some extent as their trustees to see to it that the shed is at least properly maintained and their property protected. At the present time: the roof stays are in danger of parting altogether while the weather beats in and threatens to destroy the boats. Here is a job of work which, to our minds is no less important than our patriotic obligations. Let us get together and find either the labour or the money to restore the building and protect the property of the boys who are fighting for us and are as & result unable to do"it themselves. Businessmen, workers and residents, here is a worthy avenue for action.
