RACING NOTES

THE SUCCESS OF HUNTO The Hunting Song—Dodo gelding Hunto, by his victories at Waipa and Ellerslie, shows that he is; a much improved horse since being trained by J. H. Dufty at Thames, He. is one of the few Hunting Songs that, acts well on hard going, but judging by liis Ellerslie win he' did not trouble much by the sting in the ground. PROMINENT The Wanganui siro, Broiefort, was represented by three, juvenile winners at. the holiday meetings. Sweet Biscuit won at. El'lerslie, Barras at Stratford and Lady Nahleen at Marton. HIS FUTURE DOUBTFUL The future of the champion Kindergarten is deemed to be doubtful. After liis effortless victory in the Auckland Cup he. showed signs of weakness in the rear foreleg. Big weights and hard tracks have evidently had a detrimental effect on the vei-y fine, performer, and an extended spell mny be neces.sar\\

THE BILLY PEACH DIVIDEND The big dividend paid out. on the win of Billy Peacli on New Year's Day will not be forgotten for a long time. A story is now being told, to the effect that in a certain district of the North Island there is a pencil'ler who pays out tote odds. On the particular day his last bet was that. of a lady punter—2/6 on Billy for a win. That modest investment cost him over £60 but it is duly related that he did not groan over the transaction. RELATED TO PHAR LASP Cheap Lodging, Avho scored her first win at Marton, is a four year old by Friday Night (a brother to Pliar Lap) from Clink, Hie dam of Wardress, is owned by Mrs R. r JC. Edmonds, of Wellington, and trained by Mrs Campbell, of Riccarton. She is the first of the progeny of Friday Night to win a race. GLOAMING'S RECORD Of the £33,000 registered on the legalised machine on the Auckland Cup £8090 was invested on Kindergarten. This is a record single horse investment for New Zealand or Australia in a handicap. The highest amount for any race is £1.0,000 ou Gloaming. NIGHT PAL SOLD The Nightmarch—Palantua geld* ing Night Pal, has been sold by Mrs W. McKenzie, of Dunedin, to Mr A. Kyle, of Greymouth, owner of Adina. So far Night Pal has been quite a disappointment, considering that both his sire and dam were New Zealand Cup winners. VERY BRILLIANT The Vaals mare Kraal, winner of the Glasgow Handicap at Ellerslie, skipped over the. seven furlongs in 1.24 4-5, which ranks as the fastest time registered in the Dominion during the holiday season. She may not be a weight carrier being built on light lines, but. should remain a payable proposition until the handicappers take special notice of her. RIDER WITH CONFIDENCE Norman Lynch, rider of Billy Peach, the Ellerslie sensational dividend paj r er, is an apprentice to trainer J. Buchanan. He rides Avitli a fine degree of confidence, and as his services will now be in greater demand, further victories should come his way. AFTER MANY DAYS The Raceful gelding Vitemcnt. who in the Waikato had a long run of "outs'" is now trained by All' Wright at. Awapuni. He accounted for the hurdles at Marton on the first day, and would probably \i.ave won on the second, day but for getting his tongue over the bit. FOR STEEPLECHASING Trainer J. H. Jeiferd, of Hastings has allotted Khurja a brief holiday. When take up again he will be prepared for steeplechase events. OHINEMPRI PROGRAMME The Ohinemuri Jockey Club lias issued its programme for the summer meeting on March 20. For eight events the prize money totals £1875, of which £.">OO is set down for the Cup and £30U to the St. Patrick's Handicap.
