LOCAL BOWLING RESULTS COMPETITIONS ADVANCE The Whakatane Bowling Club's greens at Apanui continue to maintain their great popularity. Tiie new year has seen no diminishing of the splendid spirit of enthusiasm which has already carried the. game so far since the season opened. Games played over the week-end resulted as under:— Bridger, Salmon and Luxton 25 v Mcintosh, Berg and Tippett 20. H. I. King, Burt, Frances and White 19 v Murphy, Grace, E. J. Bell and Howat 17. Allen, Topp, Alexander and Hollis 22 v Head, Smith, Cantrell and Marsh 21. Martin, Wilson, Burgess and McIsaac 22 v Steele, Wilson, Cole and Henderson 18. Donaldson, Menzies, J. Bell and Loane 23 v Taylor, Carling, Buckman and Shaw 10. Smith Stars King, Pearson, Currah and Sloane (holders) 27 defeated Bennett, Dainton, Comer and Drube 15. In a further challenge King, Creeke, Currah and Sloane 20 defeated Henderson, Luxton, McLeod and Loane 9. Junior Stars Darvill and Martin 23 beat Burt and Carling 11. Handicap Pairs In the section play-off for the Handicap Pairs competition Bigelow and Hollis 22 beat Darvill; and McLeod 15. The position is now that Bigelow and Hollis play Healey and Currah in* the final. WHAKATANE-TANEATUA SHIELD GAME The annual fixture between the Whakatane and Taneatua Clubs takes place on Saturday next when members are asked to muster at the club grounds in order to leave at 1.30 sharp. Teams selected are as follows:— Donaldson, Creeke, Mclsaac, Howat (s). Bennett, Henderson, Currah, Loane (s). McKenzie, Pearson, Alexander, Littlejohn (s). Darvill, J. Bell, Luxton, Hollis (s). Feathers Team: Carling, Mackintosh, Dainton, Head (s). Any players unable tQ make the trip are asked to get in touch with the secretary as soon as possible.
