RABBITS!
A GROWING MENACE
REPORTS FROM MANAWAHE
Jhe lact that sportsmen are not shooting them off at the normal rate of pre-war years has, according to an informant, from Manawahe, given the rabbit population in that area a Hying start which if reports are corx'ect will take a considerable effort to overtake. "Rabbits are everywhere," he said, "Even under the houses now, they £Ue bold, enough to camp and make their burrows." He added that, even smoking them out would have little effect upon the general invasion which was setting in. Recently efforts were made by farmers at Manawahe to l include their district in the Pongakawa Rabbit. Board's area, a proposition which 'the Board is considering at the present time. Speedy action however is required to aleviate the present menace which if not prompt ly dealt with bids fair to undo all the good work previously conducted on the Rangitaiki Plans. Reports from Lake Rotoma also indicate a steadily growing threat from rabbits in that district.
