OTAKIRI GALA DAftCE

WELCOMING IN NEW YEAR

The result of the Gala Dance which was held in the Otakiri Hall on New Year's Eve, must have been very gratifying to the committee, in charge of the Farewell and Welcome Home Fund, who organised the effort and who had worked so hard to. ensure its success. A record crowd filled the hall and enjoyed to the full the varied dance programme, with the Gaiety Boys orchestra providing bright music. To Mr Lord foil the duties of M.C. The ladies selling paper hats, did brisk business throughout the. evening, the cash prize of 10/ ft for the lucky number being a draw. This was won by Mr O'Brien. Cool drinks too were available at small cost. Mr F. Footc and Mr F. Missen who were in charge of the Lucky Dip, were more or less swamped with customers, resulting in a clean sweep early in the evening. Miss J. Tebbutt, O'nepu, secured the Lucky Parcel containing the JO/G cash prize. Several Monte Carlos were on the dance programme, the prize winners, being as follows: Mrs J. Russell and. Mr F. Villas; Miss Swan and Mr O'Brien; Miss Elvers and Mr Lang. As the clock struck 12 the crowd bade farewell to 1912 by all joining in the singing of. Auld Lang Syne, after which tiM'-i was heralded in witli three bousing cheers. A dainty supper was served by the ladies committee. During the evening a beautiful cushion made by Mrs Caul field Senr. and donated by Mr D. Cnullield, was won by Miss Packard. Mr Ashley was the liu'ky winner of a beautiful iced cake, which was gcnei--ously donated by Mrst King. In the wae small hours the singing of the National Anthem brought a happy evening to a close.
