An extract from la newsj)aper cutling of October lfj, 1892, reads as under : Phonograph.— A few years ago. the phonograph of Edison and the wonderful things that might be expected of it W'-r-.' common topics of convcrsi-.tion, and many have expressed surprise that after so much promise the performance is so small. "Why/' they ask, "is not the phonograph to be obtuined commercially?'" It was long ago promised that its investor had perfected it, and .it has been exhibited all over the country in o"d.er that the public might be made acquainted with the really marvellous results of which it is capable: but still, jt cannot be purchased, and no one .seems to know -'he reason whv. 1
