UNKNOWN

THE fact that the Minister of Defence has recently announced the forthcoming overhaul of the schedule of military training in New Zealand, has given rise to a flock of rumours and many speculative queries as to what form the new system of universal training will take. This new attitude is probably following on the completion of the ballots covering all men of military age and their classification. It is probably merely a matter of pre-arranged policy when the schedule of New Zealand's manhood was finished and points to the possibility of intensified training for all A.l. men. On good authority we learn that it is the Government's intention to giving all men of this category three months intensified military camp training annually. This would mean the inauguration of a new basis of training which would be likely to supersede the Home Guard, though the latter body would always stand as an organisation of the semi-civilian variety. An announcement as to the exact nature of the Government's plans in this direction is anxiously awaited as most of those affected are men in responsible positions who desire to make plans accordingly in order to meet the new demands of the military authorities whatever they may be.
