YOUTH BEFORE COURT WARNING TO FUTURE OFFENDERS "We have had several cases of benzine thefts before us< and I think it has been stated that we will be dealing very severely with future offenders. The maximum penalty provided by the law is three monlths' imprisonment or £20 fine." The above m observation came from the Whakatane bench when a young man Norman George Worrall appeared before Messrs G. A. Brabant and C. H. Christensen, last Wednesday on, cai charge of theft of petrol. Sergeant Farrcll said that the defendant Avas just 18 years old, and had been employed on one of the Rural Delivery vans. For some time past his employer, had noticed various irregularities in the quantities of benzine which were used in the work and on the night of October 24, missed two gallons from a container in lxis garage. The police were notified and interviewed the defendant who admitted the theft, tn other respects the boy had a good record and, it was unfortunate that this lapse had occurred. Possibly .lie had had too much freedom and toti much money which he had not spent wisely. "Worrall was fined. £5, and ordered to make immediate restitution.
