BOBBY CALF BAROMETER
Whakatane Public Library At the monthly meeting of the Public Library Committee meeting the above books were selected: All Our To-morrows, Douglas Reed; Hitler Over Europe, Ernest Henri: It Takes All Kinds, Louis Blomfield.-; One Foot in Heaven, H. Spenee; Mus'k and Amber, A. E. W. Mason; The Sword of Justice, Francis Duncan; Smith, W. Deeping; Unlucky Dip, John Glyder.
MORE calves were collected from the Rangitaiki area during the month of October than for the same month last year. The total for the season to date belies very definitely the allegation so often made these days that dairying in the Eastern Bay of Plenty is on the decline. In actual figures October 1942 realised 2245 bobby calves against 1792, for October 1941. The totals to date are: 1942, 16,758, and 1941, 16,377. This is proof positive that as many, if not more cows are being milked this year than last in spite of the. acute manpower position and the precarious nature of the transport facilities. It is also good to reflect that the farmer at least, has decided to carry on under the greatest difficulties that have beset him for years, and maintain the volume of his production in the interests of the country generally.
Rangitaiki Domain Board At the annual meeting of the Rangitaiki Domain Board alter the statutary expiry of the term of seven j*ears in office, the following new board was selected: Messrs C. E. Thompson, J. Russell, W. J. R. Thompson, O. V. Marx, J.' Mullins, J. Irving and W. Goldsmith, Jnr. At a subsequent meeting Mr CX V. Marx was elected chairman, and Mr J. Mullins secretary.
