At a recent meeting of the Ohura branch of the New Zealand Fanners' Union, the shortage of farm labour (especially scrub cutters and fencers) necessary for the general maintenance of all lands in the Central King Country in particular, was fully discussed and the following remit was carried:— "That the Minister of Finance be asked.to consider a Back-Block Farm Depreciation Account, thus allowing the creation of a reasonable cash reserve, to be expended after the war in bringing deteriorated farm lands back to pre-war production value, thus ensuring the continuation of farming of such lands which may otherwise be abandoned due to no fault of the farmer, but' to a set of circumstances arising out of the war and the present system of taxing a depreciating farming asset.";

Relief Goods for England Advice lias been received that a further large shipment of relief goods sent through tlie Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the N.Z. Red Cross Society has arrived safely in England. The war organ-* isation of the British Red. Cross Society lias as'ked that publicity be given to the fact that the goods are a very welcome gift. It is also stated that they are not only greatly appreciated but will be most helpful in these days of stress, and especially l'or the coming cold weather.
