RACING NOTES

A RIDER'S LICENSE, Hector Gray, recognised as one of the best horsemen in the Dominion has again made application for a jockey's license. The application ■will he considered hy the New Zealand Racing Conference this month. LOOKING A PICTURE Kindergarten, described by a Wellington written as still a champion, arrived at Trentliam last week. It is reported that the race at Hastings tended to sharpen him up,, and on Wednesday he looked a picture as he got through pace work on the grass track. WORKING WELL The Te Aroha bred Gladynev( who in 1940 ran second in the Caulfield Cup to Bcaulivre, is; now owned by trainer B. Burgess. He is executing really good work at Awapuni, will compete at the Wellington meeting and then go on to Riccarton for the New Zeal ami Cup contest.

A DERBY COLT Mr T. H. Lowry's Boulder Dam is being selected as a likely Derby colt. He had his first race this season at Hastings, where he scored in the Epsom Handicap from Theolateral and Tawhainui. JARRED A JOINT A few days before the Mitclielson Cup Gay Lally jarred a joint while working on the tracks, and had to be withdrawn from the race. WELL TREATED Gold Spot who carried 12.0 in the steeplechase at Paeroa, and but for tipping out at the second to last obstacle, has been allotted H-2 in the 1 Hunt Cup at Cambridge. The jumps at the latter course may be more substantial than at Paeroa, and this means the Ace gelding will jump more carefully. MAY RE-APPEAR The brilliant Monte Cristo, third *n the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie in Easter 194:1 to Kindergarten and Brazen Bold, and a winner on the second day, and who late had an unsuccessful trip to Australia, joined Fred Smith's team at Takanini a few weeks ago, and may make his re-appearance at the Waikato Hunt meeting on Labour Day. DERBY CANDIDATE The Nightmarcli—Praise colt, Representative, raced by Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P., and winner of the Avondale Guineas and Great. Northern Guineas this season, is now being selected as Auckland's hope for the Great Northern Derby to be run on New Year"s Day. His breeding lines are right, he ,is the real type of a race horse, and his performances have been of high merit.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP Arctic Dawn, which has been gelded since he last raced, lias been sold by Mr J. H. Grigg to Mr G. G. Tansey, of Christchurch. Mr Tansey also' has Tea Drop in G. Ridgway's stable. SHOWS ABILITY One of the latest additions to the jumping brigade at Ellerslie is the Tea Tray gelding Tea Gong. During the past week he has been given a course of schooling over the battens, and his efforts have been quite satisfactory. Tea Gong is the right type to make good as a hurdler. THE IMPROVED YOGI Mr Frank Onnond's Yogi, who showed a return to form by winning the Marangai Handicap at the Wanganui meeting, is reported to have further improved since. By Beau Pere from the Limond marc Prestige from Homage by Absurd—Eulogy, he ranks high among the Dominion's best class thoroughbreds. Mr Ormond has a t.wo year old half-brother to Yogi, by Bulaiulshar, which has just joined B. H. Morris' team at Grcenmeadows..
