BOWLING SEASON

TE PUKE AND TANEATUA CLUBS OPENINGS LAST SATURDAY Fine weather favoured the opening of both the Taneatua and Te Puke Bowling Clubs new season last Saturday. In both instances Whakatane was well represented the attendance on the local greens being very limited as a results At Te Pu'lce where the Whakatane President, Mr W. Henderson, attended a happy day was spent with all the rinks; occupied. Mutual exchanges of goodwill were indulged in by hosts and visitors. Taneatua i-egistered a large and enthusiastic muster of the bowling fraternity and the greens were duly declared open by the club president, Mr Ji. Lawn. A very enjoyable afternoon's: play followed the teams being selected from club and visiting players. At Whakatane The Whakatane club's greens witnessed. a few friendly matches and a further game in the Smith Stars competition in which Henderson, McLeod, Hoi lis and Hayward (holders) were defeated by Dixon, Healy, Luxton and Littlejohn 20. The friendly fixtures resultedi — Warren, Berg and Cantrill 20 beat Taylor, Morpeth and Drube 13. Topp, Wilson and Hellyar 20 beat Dainton, King and Currah 11. Smith, Otley and Baxter 24 beat Head, Buckman and Pearson 10.
