TUHOE WAR EFFORT
ALL SECTIONS CONTACTED
A tour of the Waikaremoana and Ruatahunu districts were made by the Tuhoe Tribal War Effort Committee headed by Mr Taluirita lamarau (Chairman) and Rutene Karaitiana was made recently. Tlie secretary Mr Tui Taw or a, was unable to make the trion account, of sickness and was very much regretted. Added to the party was Mr T. Davis well known to the Bay of Plenty and Hawke's. Bay districts. The party left Ruatoki early in the morning of tlie 3rd October, arriving Waikaremoana in the evening. That night the purpose of the visit was. fully outlined to the people by the visiting members and was met with great success. In spite of a little opposition from a small section of the peoxjle at the commencement, full co-opera-tion Avas arrived at, at the conclusion of the meeting. The following morning Mr Turi Carroll, chief of the Kaliungunu tribe, arrived, and was; welcomed by the local people, lie was accompanied by the Rev. Heemi Huata. The following resolution was unanimously carried: That the people of the tw r o< canoes Matatua and Kaliungunu were to stand solidly behind the carrying out of the war effort to a victorious: end.. Thus the meeting terminated and the travelling parties left for their different homes. Since the formation of the Tuhoe Manpower Commit' Lee by the Hon. Sir Ap'irana Ngata last year, it has done remarkable work in the stirring up of the War Effort, spirit in the Tuhoe area, and this, work was only achieved through the generosity of Mr T. Davis in the transportation of members of the committee in visiting its vast area.
