PLUNKET SOCIETY'S APPEAL

THE annual appeal of the Whakatane branch of the N.Z. Plunket Society takes place on Friday next. As in the past the Society's activities will take the form of a street collection coupled with a stall in the foyer of the Regent Theatre and we have no doubt but that the committee, struggling in the face of so many other and apparently more pressing appeals in connection with the district's war effort will meet with a liberal: response. It behoves us more than ever in time of war to safeguard and protect the newer and oncoming generation and it is to just such work that the Plunket Society is pledged. Nothing could be more vital, nothing so all embracing as the correct rear' ing, right feeding and habiting of the young for upon this foundation will be built the citizenry of to-,morrow.. [Friday's appeal will afford an opportunity to those young mothers who have benefitted so extensively from the Society's service in the past to make their own individual contributions to the cause. It is recognised that in most/ cases they cannot give active assistance, but in any case they can at least supply the means whereby the service is maintained. Remember Friday therefore is Plunket appeal day!
