OWNERS PROSECUTED

The number of prosecutions in the Wha'katane Court against owners of wandering stock indicated that the practice, an exceedingly dangerous one, is growing in this district. Prosecutions by the Transport Department and the County Inspector have apparently failed to give the lesson required and the list of offenders is continually mounting. Last week Johnny Tairoa, of Matata, was fined £1 and. costs' 27s lor allowing three horses to be at large. Wm. T. Keepa for allowing a bull and three cows to be at large on August 11 was lined 10s and costs 22s (id. Araroa Tepere the owner of two cows found wandering at Te Teko on July .'SO was lined 10s and costis 375. Richard Ngaranga who permitted a draught mare to wander at large was fined 10s and costs (kl.
