WANTED AN ASSURANCE

Sir, —There are questions one lears asked every day of the week ind: there is at least one answer, ail inswer which also explains the ense of impotence, frustration and ;elf interest amongst the people. ? or twenty-one years our social and jconoinic structure has been paralysed by a traitorous economic and inancial system, with the result :hat the outbreak of hostilities 'ound us hopelessly unprepared. It ivas Wall Street and Lombard Street that were instrumental in establishing a new power in Europe; Nazi Germany. And whilst. Germany spent millions on armaments, democracies found themselves in the paridoxial position of having the men, and materials, necessary to build a powerful and mighty nation, but were denied the money and credit to develop their vast resour- 15 ces. Whilst Germany and. Japan were preparing for Avar Britain re-* duced her Navy, failed to mechanise her Annj r , neglected: her Air Rorce and scrappcd a large portion of her Mercantile Fleet—not because we were poor, but because high finance decreed that our wants, had to fit in with the narrow confines of an orthordox monetary system. And instead of a new Charter of Life, a new social order, there still remains that sinster shadow of the last post war period. If this war is to become a crusade for liberty and justice, we want a guarantee of a new to-morrow; a positive assurance of a human betterment, based on economic security, and a monetary mechanism that will make impossible and for all, the iniquities and the : enslavement created by a debit in perpetuity system, such an assurance would bring forth the mighty energy and whole-hearted co-opera-tion of the people for victory., Cart we get that assurance? Yes, bub not by party politics. Yours etc., W. BRADSHAW.
