FAREWELL APPEAL CLOSES THIS WEEK

THE fortnight's appeal on. behalf of the Whakatane County and Borough Soldiers Farewell Committee has realised to date the sum of £64 14s as revealed by the latest figures published to-day. The list will be closed at the end of the present week when it is hoped the' objective of £100 will be achieved,. To assist the -movement, the committee had decided to open subscription lists in banks and other local offices at which places the public will be invited to make their donations. Funds are needed urgently to enable the citizens of Whakatane to maintain the civic farewells which in the past have as far as humanly possible been afforded to all men leaving for active service abroad.
