RACING NOTES
AUCKLAND WELCOME STAKES Lord Luck, Brief and General Burleigh are at present the ruling favourites for the Welcome Stakes to be run at Ellerslie on Saturday. Interest is being taken in this event on account of class being well represented in the northern two year olds this, season. PROGRESSING WELL Since joining J. Chisholm's team Kraal has made good progress and is in first-rate order. Recently this mare has been showing plenty of speed in her trials, and. she is due to make a re-appearancei at the Auckland meeting next Saturday. WILL GET SUPPORT *Lord Luck, which is to contest the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday, shaped nicely in a three furlong sprint last week. This colt won well at the Avondale meeting, and he will have plenty of admirers this week. HAS BECOME SOLID During the last couple of weeks Nizam has hardened in condition. 'He will be an improved horse when lie goes to the post for the Great Northern Guineas and may turn the tables on the two horses that finished in front of him in the Avondale Guineas last month. A CLEAR CUT WIN Surpcen, the half brother to Valpcen, has been raced into form. He ran his best race to date when he Won tlie hurdles from a good field. Well placed throughout Fergus brought him through at the right moment to win decisively from Prince Pilot and; the fast finishing Venture.
