COSTLY SLIP
A slip led to the appearance and conviction before Mr W. H.. Freeman, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, last Avcek, of George Leo McMillan, bus driver, charged, with the theft of 25s in money and a pair of woman's gloves valued at 12s 6d.
On the pi-evious Thursday as McMillan was walking in Victoria Street he noticed a woman'ls handbag lying on the pavtment and picking it up took it home with him. Among other things the bag contained the money mentioned in the charge, the gloves and the owner's social security book. The bag was returned through the post, but unfortunately for himself, accused had inadvertently placed his own gas and electricity account among the articles he left in the bag, after removing the money and gloves. When seen by the police, accused made a clean breast of the matter.
McMillan, Avho pleaded guilty, was fined £5.
