TO-MORROW'S BALLOT
THE publication of approximately 21..000 names comprising men within the military age-group of 35 to 38 years takes place to-morrow and is expected to make the most drastic incursions into the country's industrial and economic life than any of its forerunners. The men in most instances are carrying heavy responsibilities and in practically every case will defy replacement should they be passed fit and drawn into the military forces. On the other hand it must be obvious to the authorities that every ballot which is now released means substantial weakening- of the civilian ranks upon which the army is completely dependent for its maintenance and its food. It can therefore be taken for granted that there will not be the drastic and sweeping withdrawal from industry as experienced in the past, but rather a steadier process during which the case of each reservist will be carefully investigated with a view to determining whether his absence from civilian life will have any direct bearing upon the country's.essential industries or not.
