TWENTY-SEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING

STRUGGLING sturdily through the ebb and flow of fortune dictated by war, the dairying industry of this country is probably the most stable of all.New Zealand's primary occupations, and its importance to our war effort can be guaged by the measure of protection now being afforded it by the Government, by the release of men from ca.mps in order to safeguard against any drop in production. At Edgecumbe on Wednesday last the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company, recognised as one of the most progressive and wealthiest individual co-operative concerns, held its twentyseventh annual meeting. Granted the attendance was not as large as in former years, but it was reassuring to hear the same old questions and subjects handled, regarding herd control, testing and pastureage. Indicating that in spite of the war the farmers viewpoint remains undistorted and that he fully realises the paramount need for settled concentration on the job in hand, war or no war. The great industry built from such a small and. insignificant beginning can once again be described as a tribute to the late Mr J. W. Sumner, the company's first chairman whose memory will ever remain with those associated with the company in the future.
