SOCIAL AND DANCE

FUNCTION AT TANEATUA

ASSIST I NT, RED CROSS FUNDS

Taneatua residents were treated to a musical feast laslt F.rid'ay evening l when a dance combined with a concert programme of an unusually high standard was held in the local hiaill in the interests of the local sub-branch of the N.Z. Red Cross Society.

lii spite of the travel difficulties due to the widespread Hooding in the Rangitaiki basin, the hall was filled to capacity and the programme reflected the greatest credit upon the promoters, the Taneatua Red Gross Executive. Talent of a high order went to fill the outstanding programme and Taneatua took to its heart such splendid entertainers as Mrs A-lison Cordery whose fine soprano voice was heard to delightful effect, Mr Clinton WiLliams whose strong baritone provided a finished style for a popular song bracket and Mr Deigliton. Beautifully rendered duet numbers by Mrs Cordery and Mr Cradwick also found warm applause, but perhaps the finest effects was obtained in the solo with violin oibligalo, in which both singer (Mrs Cordery) and instrumentalist (Mrs Larmer) excelled themselves. M>r Oscar Rice who figured prominently on the programme acquitted himself in his usual masterful style, while Mr Boswell was a further popular acquisition, to a programme, of high class vocalists. At 'the conclusion Mr T. E!. Hamerton, apologising for the absence of the Patron of the local subcentre (Mr A. F. McGougan) took the opportunity of thanking the artists and those present for their patronage indicating too that the evening had been an unqualified success. The Whakatane Pipe Band under Drum Major MeKenzie which was also in attendance provided music for several dances following a dainty supper which was served by the \adies committee. Mr A. R. Torrie made a capable M.C.
