AUCKLAND 28, TAURANGA 12 MR FRED BURT IN TEAM Tlic following report of a representative football match played between Auckland and Tauranga fifty years ago is reprinted from tlie Bay of Plenty Times of August 15, 1892: "The Tauranga representatives played Auckland at Potter's Paddock last Saturday. The Tauranga team was as follows: Full-back, W. Dar~ raglii; three-quarters, F. Burt, J. Warbrick, W. Duncan;, halves, H. Tanner, G. Glarke, S. Tanner; forwards, A. Haua, J. Haua, Darragh, H. Armitagc. D. Morrow, Swainson, Rawiri, Enoka. Auckland won the toss and J. Warbrick kicked oil, Jervis returned and a scrum formed in centre of field. First blood for Auckland was scored at corner flag by Cole. Pennalligen. failed to increase the score. Auckland 2, Tauranga 0. Play centred and pace was very fast, the ball being carried up and down the field at a terrific rate. Braund passed to Maselield whom Burt grassed. Burt sustained a kick on the head and suffered a dislocation of shoulder which Warbrick pulled; in, leaving Burt very sore. Tauranga forced play to Auckland's twenty-live and crossed the line but Taylor saved. Following a forcn down bj r Tauranga Duncan fumbled and fell on the ball, holding it too long. Auckland were awarded a free kick which Jervis succeeded in sending the oval over the bar. Auckland 5, .Tauranga 0. After the second spel'l Auckland increased the score to 11 with Tauranga still knocking. First blood was scored for Tauranga when li. Tanner picked up and crossed the line. 'Burt converted. Auckland made a quick recovery from determined play by Tauranga and increased the score to: Auckland 10, Tauranga 5. After some exciting passing Burt got. an opening and amidst vociferous cheering potted. a beauty. Auckland 16, Tauranga 9. Auckland again increased their score with a try which was converted by Jervis. The game now became fast and furious. From a free kick Burt scored his third goal, bringing the score to: Auckland 21, Tauranga 12. From a line-out. Auckland increased their score by two tries one of which Avas converted, making the final score: Auckland 28, Tauranga 12.
