FAREWELL FUNCTIONS

LOCAL MEN HONOURED

A farewell dance was given Mr G. Gillanders recently in the Waimana Hall. There was a good attendance of dancers, Mr and Mrs King and Mrs Eagle supplied the music, and Miss P. McConnell obliged with an extra. Mr H. Ward law acted as M.C. Mr Gillanders who is in the R.N.Z.A.F., was unfortunately called away a few hours before the evening took place. He was forwarded a wallet and cheque from the people of Waimana and Nukuhou North, with their best wishes. Corporal Henry Ward'Hatw There was a good attendance of relatives and friends at the farewell held, last Thursday in the Waimana Hall in honour of Corporal Henry Ward law. The guest of honour was a keen sport, playing tennis and golf and will be missed from both clubs, Mr Wardlaw was presented with a wallet and cheque from the residents of the district.

Supper was served by a capable committee of. ladies and dancing continued until the late hours.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

GARDENING CIRCLE

The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou W.I. gardening circle was held last Wednesday afternoon at Mrs King's residence. There was a good attendance of members. Apologies AA r ere received from Mrs Addison and Mrs Mitchell for their absence. Mrs Woollield presided and expressed sympathy with Mrs Addison, A\ho is not in the best of health. It Avas decided to Avritc to Mrs Addison and also send, her a box of spring iloAvers from the members, wishing her a speedy recovery to good health.

Mrs Woollield gave each member a packet of seed saved from ilowers in her oavii garden. r l he placing of shrubs for successive blooming Avas discussed, also groAving of vegetables. A competition arranged by Mrs King, naming as many trees and shrubs in the garden in eight minutes, Avas Avon by Mrs Woollield and Mrs Wylde 2.

The day's competitions were : —- Vase of ilowers arranged for effect, Mrs Woollield 1; Mrs Stevenson 2: Mrs King 3. Best Uowcr, Mrs Hughes 1; Mrs Stcwenson 2s; Mrs King 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Hughes 1; Mrs King 2; Mrs Woollield 3.

Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Mitchell and. Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Cranswick kindly acted as judge and Mrs Woolfleld thanking hostesses and Mrs King for the pleasant afternoon spent by all. I
