RAILWAY TRAVEL

At last Executive meeting of the Auckland Farmers' Union it was stated that some time ago a suggestion had been made by the Union to the Railway Department that it should arrange for the sale of 'miles' of, railway travel. The Department explained why this was not possible, but had since brought the idea into active operation. The secretary reported that the rate for 2000 miles is l.G5d per mile, £13 15sr, for MOO miles £.19 10s; 4000 miles £25; 5000 miles £29 12s, 1.37 d per mile. By arrangement, transfer is allowed. There is no saving, unless: Railway Service cars are used, under 3000 miles. The ordinary first class return to Wellington is £5 12s and the mileajie is 852. Ihis is l.«)//d pel mile.
