A certain Whakatane houseAA'ife wlio Avas becoming increasingly alarmed at tlve rale the family was eating into its sugar ration, concluded that the main source of the trouble lay with the children. "Something will have to be done about it," she said. "We are always short at the end of the month, and; 3 r ou children arc definitely to blame" Thereat she proceeded to collect a few clean tins which she labelled with the names of each child and herself and dad. Into the tins went the next ration of sugar, carefully weighed and apportioned. The youngsters took up the chairlengc and by forgoing sugar in their tea, and taking treacle on their porridge managed to conserve their own supplies in an amazing manner. In a week or two Mother's an<l Dad's tins were getting well down and they looked hopefully at the brimming children's receptacles. Mother's chargrin knew no bounds when she found the youngest, child actually hkling her ration to save it from plunder by her unprincipled parents.
