WAIMANA NEWS

INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY A very pleasant afternoon was speiit in the Waimana Hall last .Wednesday when the WaimanaNukuhou .Women's Institute celebrated its 13th birthday. The halt was decorated with spring flowers and wattle. Mrs Hewitt presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute song and Ode to Friendship."

Mrs Hewitft welcomed all visitors and hoped they would spend an enjoyable aftefnoon.

A knitting competition arranged by Mrs Clark caused lots of fun, also a chocolate eating competition arranged by Mrs T. W. Ward law. Two short sketches acted by Mrs Wylde and Miss J. McConnell, were much enjoyed. Impromptu speeches proved most interesting. A musical competition was won by Miss B. Luttrell. A most popular item was given by several of the Grandmothers of the Institute, they firstly appeared on the stage dressed as grandmothers of years gone by and sang old time songs and secondly as the modern grandma and sang some of the more modern hits.

A dainty afternoon tea was served by members and a lovely birthday cake, made and donated by Mrs Gallagher was much enjoyed. Many thanks to Mrs Gallagher. Community singing followed and the National Anthem closed a pleasant
