♦ . —SSP3 SOLDIERS FAREWELLED During the past three months'sevcral Manawahe boys have left for S overseas service. On April 29 Pte. F Len ErsUine was farewelled and pree sented with fountain pen and wal- " let by the residents of Manawahe. n Two visitors were also present Sergeant Pilot Gordon Forbes and Pte. e Ted Maunder. A similar function was held in honour of Pte. George ;t Fenton on the 6th June. He was also presented with wallet and pen. '' On the 17th of the -same month n Sergeant Pilot Keith Rendall was f farewelled by the'people of ManawL ~ ahe. He was presented with a writing case and wallet. ° A second member of the Air Force r was honoured on Tuesday evening the lltla. July when the. resid'entoc. gathered to bid farewell t*o L.A.G. a Jim Farrelly. During th® da«c« 1 L.A.C. Farrelly was presented with a gift frdtn MsutaAvahe people.
' Arboc D*y Manawahe school dhil'dren took Arbor Day as *n opportunity for beautifying Manawahe. On the Wednesday afternoon th» senior children planted lawsonian*s and laurels round the lialfc. file laurels were kindly donated by Mr A- RendaN. Firwt Aid Classes Since the 10th July," members of - Home Gaurd and W.W-.S.A. have been attending First Aid classes. These lectures, held every Friday evening, are conducted by Mr A. Caiiing. The classes beneficial and interesting, and the knowledge gained will be valuable, not only in war~fimc but also in the ordinary day's routine.
